Google Rolls Out Gmail Username Change Feature: Users Can Finally Update Email IDs

Google has begun rolling out a long-awaited feature that allows Gmail users to change the username portion of their email address without creating a new account, marking a major shift from its long-standing policy of permanent email IDs. With this update, users can switch to a new @gmail.com address while retaining all existing data, including emails, contacts, Drive files, and account history. The original email address remains linked as an alternate alias, ensuring continuity for receiving messages and signing in. However, the feature comes with certain limitations—users can typically change their username only once every 12 months and only a limited number of times overall, with the new username needing to be unique and available. The rollout is currently gradual and may not yet be accessible to all users globally. This update reflects Google’s move toward greater flexibility in digital identity management, allowing users to move away from outdated or unprofessional email IDs without disrupting their digital ecosystem
